Dr. Monés, speaker at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in his role as Medical Director of FC Barcelona

The Director of the Institut de la Màcula and of the Barcelona Macula Foundation, Dr. Monés, will be in Manchester next week to attend the European Healthy Stadia Conference for the promotion of healthy habits among the European population.

In his role as FC Barcelona's Medical Director, Dr. Monés will give a talk on “Quit smoking with FCB”, the innovative initiative promoted by the football club at the end of 2012 and aimed at helping its supporters give up smoking.

 The meeting will be attended by representatives of European sports clubs, public sports bodies and the principal health agencies of the EU Member States.

 The full programme may be viewed here although the main issues which will be dealt with are as follows:

-          Healthy eating

-          Policies for smoke-free environments in sports facilities (stadia, etc.)

-          How to increase levels of physical activity

-          Health policies applicable to international events

Together with Dr. Monés, the panel of speakers will include representatives from UEFA, the English Premier League, the European Commission, the Rugby League and the  World Heart Foundation. The football clubs represented are Barcelona, Manchester City, Wolfsburg, Everton and Manchester United, among others.

Recognition of research work by the Catalonia Regional Government

Before the conference in Manchester, Dr. Monés will attend the ceremony of the National Research Awards 2012, which will be held on Monday 18 at the National Theatre of Catalonia at 8.30 p.m. The event will be presided by the Right Honourable President of the Catalonia Regional Government, Artur Mas i Gavarró.
