«Many wet AMD patients are under-treated»

Dr. Jordi Monés has explained the need for a proactive model that anticipates the disease and is long-lasting. «For some years, we have persevered in applying proactive and non-reactive treatment regimens that prevent serious recurrences that subsequently produce sight loss that is often irreversible. Dr. Monés was speaking in an interview with +Salud supplement of the el Periódico de Catalunya newspaper, in with he compared this treatment with the average schedule given to patients in Spain, which is between four and five injections a year.

With regard to future treatments for the atrophic type of AMD, Dr. Monés believes that these will appear in the next 10 years and be based on gene therapies and stem cells.
