The excellent curriculum of Dr. Paula Verdaguer, an ophthalmologist who specialises in  Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Institut de la Màcula, has led her to recently receive two prestigious grants in her field.

In Spain, Dr. Verdaguer received in 2012 one of the grants awarded by the Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Ocular Surgery (SECOIR) in recognition of the contribution of the specialist's research work at the Institut. Furthermore, SECOIR issues another line of grants (PubliBecas) focused on promoting scientific publishing, one of which Dr. Verdaguer has also received.

At European level, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) this year awarded Dr. Verdaguer one of the grants it awards young ophthalmologists who show great promise. This recognition will enable Dr. Verdaguer to further her research in September at the prestigious University Eye Clinic of the Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC), where she will collaborate with the renowned international specialist, Dr. Rudy Nuijts.

Dr. Verdaguer has published numerous scientific articles on the latest treatments in refractive surgery: She forms part of the principal national and international medical societies, such as the Catalan Ophthalmology Society, the Spanish Ophthalmology Society (SEO), the Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Ocular Surgery (SECOIR) and the  European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).
