The Institut de la Màcula incorporates state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment for corneal refractive surgery and premium cataract surgery
09/05/2022 · NewsWhen approaching surgery, it is essential to have precise measurements of the different key parameters of the eye. If we talk about the best surgical practices in cataracts, it is necessary to go beyond biometry and keratometry of the anterior segment of the eyeball. To have the maximum guarantees of success, we must know all about the posterior corneal surface, the depth of the eye's anterior chamber and the optical biometry.
At the Institut de la Màcula we have recently incorporated the best tool for measuring these fundamental parameters in our regular practice. It is the latest Pentacam model, the Pentacam AXL wave, the first to be installed in Catalonia. This device allows us to delve into indicators such as the total aberrations of the eye and objective refraction. It also gives us an exact backlight parameter for preoperative evaluation of lens opacities —in non-dilated pupils— and precise postoperative control of the position and inclination of the intraocular lens (IOL).
This device is not only used for preoperative evaluations of corneal refractive surgeries, but also for cataract surgeries with correction of presbyopia, for which it allows us to choose the most suitable intraocular lens personalized. It is also especially useful for monitoring corneal pathologies, such as keratoconus and corneal ectasias, among others.
