Investigators and medical specialists including Dr. Jordi Monés, the Director and Ophthalmologist of the Institut de la Màcula, are gathering for the Bayer Advisory Board in Barcelona this morning.

At the meeting, advice will be provided on the use of the Aflibercept (Eylea) medicine. This injectable solution is used to treat the exudative form of age-related degeneration (AMD) and the visual alteration caused by macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in adult patients. In the future, this medicine will also treat macular edema secondary to diabetic retinopathy.

Eylea is a solution that is injected in the eye to treat exudative AMD. It is administered in order to block a specific protein that leads new blood vessels to grow in the eye. In this way, new vessels are prevented from forming, thereby improving vision and halting its deterioration.
