Ophthalmological experts attend the Novartis Advisory Board

RD edema macular

The Novartis Advisory Board takes place today in Madrid. Organised periodically by the pharmaceutical company, the meeting draws ophthalmological experts to assess a variety of ocular pathologies. The focus this time will be on recent developments and treatments for diabetic macular edema.

Macular edema is the swelling of the macula and the accumulation of liquid within it. The most frequent type is that associated with diabetic retinopathy and this occurs when the blood vessels of the retina leak blood or fluid. Those with diabetes are more prone to suffer this pathology.

Dr. Jordi Monés, the Director and ophthalmologist who specialises in the macula, retina and vitreous at the Institut de la Màcula will be among the experts taking part in the meeting.

This Novartis Advisory Board meeting will enable the pharmaceutical company and the ophthalmologists present to continue debating efficacy and safety in the treatment of diabetic macular edema, which was addressed at the First Retinnova Congress in March.
