Dr. Nieto, the oculoplasty specialist at the Institut de la Màcula, will be among the distinguished speakers.

September is a propitious month for organising scientific congresses and meetings and the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (SEO) is no exception. At the end of the month (from Wednesday 25th to Saturday 28th), Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the 89th Edition of its National Congress, the most important event for ophthalmologists and specialists in vision pathologies in Spain.

The many topics to be debated include oculoplasty, the sub-speciality of ophthalmology which is centred on ophthalmic plastic surgery. The importance of this type of pathology is evident from the Congress’s decision to devote a round table to this topic, in which Dr. José Nieto will take part.

To be moderated by Dr. Andrés Laiseca and Dr. Mateo Pons, the session will include the presentation of clinical cases of the eyelids and orbit, two of the principal problems encountered by oculoplasty specialists.

For Dr. Nieto, “drooping eyelid, among other pathologies, is one of the most common interventions in eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty.  As this is an especially sensitive area, it is very important for this type of intervention to always be undertaken by an oculoplasty specialist as the technique is totally different from that of any other plastic surgery intervention”.
