LITE: Development of Advanced Laser Imaging Techniques for the anterior and posterior Eye 30/01/2015
Integrated use of second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy to image corneal collagen fibrils and adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO) to image the photoreceptors.
Project Objectives
This project aims to develop new therapeutic approaches for such diseases by combining nanotechnology and optogenetics. These retinal degeneration conditions cause the outer layers (retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptors) to lose their ability to capture light, leading to total blindness. A new non-viral vector for delivering optogenetic tools will be developed to assess its safety and efficacy in 3 different animal models in order to submit an application for a Phase I clinical trial in human patients.
