The EURETINA Congress 2017, held in Barcelona in September, is the benchmark meeting of the European Society of Retina Specialists, where the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to this part of the eye are shared.

Dr Monés presented the paper ‘Combination therapy with a platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) inhibitor in combination with a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor in exudative AMD’ in the EURETINA UPDATE 7 session. In addition, during Free Paper Session 3 he presented ‘Understanding the natural history of geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration: Baseline data from Proxima A’.

The Medical Director of the BMF was the moderator of two sessions: Eurotimes Satellite Education Programme: Managing Retinal Diseases with Ranibizumab. New Evidence and Impact of Geographic Atrophy: Enhancing Our Understanding of the Disease, sponsored by Novartis and Roche.

The ePOSTER section of EURETINA also had four posters signed by Dr Monés and his team: ‘Drusen ooze: A novel hypothesis in geographic atrophy; A swine model of selective geographic atrophy of outer retinal layers mimicking atrophic age-related macular degeneration; Geographic atrophy phenotypes using cluster analysis’ and ‘Validation of an adaptative optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope prototype in degenerative disorders: the LITE study’.
