Dr. Jordi Monés, the first ophthalmologist in the Spanish state to form part of the world’s three top retina associations

Dr. Jordi Monés, the Director of the Institut de la Màcula and the Medical Director of the Barcelona Macula Foundation, is the first ophthalmologist in the Spanish state to become a member of the three most important retina associations in the world: the Retina Society, the Macula Society and the Club Jules Gonin.

The core mission of the Retina Society is to reduce blindness in the world through the promotion of education and the interaction of specialists in pathologies that affect the macula, retina and vitreous. Retina Society has 370 worldwide members. The association, founded in 1967 in Chicago has 175 international experts.

Founded in 1977 and with 370 members, the Macula Society is a forum to encourage research into vascular diseases of the macula and retina. Its members work for progress in the research into diseases of this type. The Macula Society recognizes achievement by its members through awards and lectures, and holds an annual meeting open to members to show progress in research.

The Club Jules Goninis a non-profit Swiss ophthalmological society that has 251 members and takes its name from the prestigious French ophthalmologist. The main aim of the club is to establish personal contacts and to promote exchanges of view between specialists in vitreo-retino-choroidal pathology and surgery. The Club organize colloquia and congresses to initiate, facilitate, and support research work and publications in this specialized field of ophthalmology.

The entry into the three associations is restricted and Dr. Monés MD, PhD, who is an ophthalmologist specialising in macula, retina y vitreous, has been a member of the Retina Society since 2001, of the Macula Society since 2002 and of the Club Jules Gonin since September this year.
