Marc Biarnés, the Clinical Trials Coordinator and Clinical Epidemiologist at the Institut de la Màcula, will teach a course entitled “What the Optician-Optometrist needs to know about retinal diseases” on 7-8 June at the Valencia College of Opticians-Optometrists (COOCV) in this Spanish city.

This training aims to familiarise opticians-optometrists with the principle diseases of the retina, from their ophthalmoscopic characteristics and from complementary explorations. It also has the purpose of developing skills that enable identification of these pathologies and their referral to the corresponding specialist.

The subject areas Biarnés will cover include degenerative and vascular diseases as well as those of the vitreous-retina interface. He will also speak about intraocular tumours, pharmacological toxicity and injuries. Prior to completing the session, Biarnés will explain a series of cases that demonstrate the subject matter of the two days.
