In late May, the Novartis pharmaceutical company filmed a video at the Institut de la Màcula. Dr. Jordi Monés, the ophthalmologist specialising in macula, retina and vitreous and the Director of the Institut, participated in the recording.
The “Journey inside the eye” video, which used sophisticated equipment that enabled 360 degree images to be filmed, was shown at the most recent EURETINA Congress, held in Nice on 17-20 September.
This is an immersive first-person video that demonstrates how treatment with Lucentis is used for a patient who has suffered from Diabetic Macular Oedema (DMO) for some years. Through a revolutionary minimisation process, the viewer is placed in a microcapsule that transports him/her to the patient’s eye. The recording system gives the viewer the sensation of travelling within the eye and experiencing the effects of the medication on a Diabetic Macular Oedema in the first person.
At EURETINA, a video system with a capsule and Oculus glasses was used to provide a totally immersive experience.
