20170507 LUCIA FERRARO ARVO LITE

The LITE European Project has been presented at the Annual Meeting of The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology ( ARVO), which was held at Baltimore this week. Dr Lucia Lee Ferraro presented the poster explaining the validation process of the laser ophthalmoscopy prototype resulting from the joint work between the Institut de la Màcula, the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) and Italy’s Construzione Strumenti Oftalmici (CSO), Istituto Nazionale di Ottica (INO) and Istituto di Fisica Applicata Nello Carrara (IFAC).

The study results demonstrated that the adaptive optics apparatus built through the project possesses the sensitivity required to obtain high-quality images of photoreceptors  —and of their absence- in patients with Stargardt’s disease or Retinitis Pigmentosa and will be able to provide data about the progression and pathogenesis of these conditions.

The LITE European Project was conducted from December 2013 to December 2016 with the aim of discovering ways of applying photonics in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. It was co-funded by the Catalan Agency for Business Competitiveness, through the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, BiophotonicPlus.
