GAP. A phase I escalating dose of subretinal sodium iodate: a toxi-induced animal model of geography atrophy of RPE and phtotoreceptors 26/03/2013

The objective of this study is to establish an animal model of geographic atrophy of the outer layers of the retina limited to a certain area of the fundus to resemble geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration and Stargardt’s disease, by using a toxic compound specific for retinal pigment epithelium. This model will be used to test different regenerative therapy approaches such as the use of stem cells and retinal transplants and to test nanotechnology approaches within the context of tissue recovery.
